Celebrating the Power of Books!

World Book and Copyright Day at Vikaasa

At Vikaasa, every page turned is a step forward. This year, we celebrated the magic of stories, the wisdom of authors, and the joy of reading on World Book and Copyright Day — a day that reminded us just how powerful a book can be in shaping young minds.

Whether it’s flying with dragons, learning about great inventors, or discovering new ideas — books spark imagination, build empathy, and broaden horizons. And at Vikaasa, we believe that’s worth celebrating every single year.

📚 A Special Visit to Our Library

To mark World Book Day, students were invited into a world of stories — our school library! Each class spent dedicated time exploring genres, flipping through pages, and getting lost in the stories that called out to them.

From science fiction to folk tales, the energy in the library was electric. Younger students picked up colorful illustrated books, while older ones delved into biographies, mysteries, and even poetry.

✍️ Learning About Respecting Creators

It wasn’t just about reading — it was also about respecting creators. As part of World Copyright Day, our teachers introduced students to the idea of giving credit where it’s due.

In simple, engaging ways, they explained how stories, ideas, and illustrations belong to someone — and how important it is to honour that. Students were fascinated to learn that copyright is what helps authors, artists, and musicians protect their work.

Classroom conversations were buzzing:

“Can I write a story and copyright it?”

“Is it okay to share a poem if I give the writer’s name?”

“Can we have a writing competition next time?”

That curiosity and eagerness to learn is exactly what World Copyright Day is all about.

🗣️ Voices from the Classroom

To wrap up the experience, students shared what they read, what they felt, and what they’ll remember.

💬 “My book showed how even kids can change the world. I want to write my own story!”

💬 “Reading today made me feel calm and curious. I liked that we all read quietly together.”

💬 “I never knew books could be so fun. I found a mystery series I want to finish!”

These joyful reflections made it clear — the power of a book lies not just in its story but in the spark it lights inside every reader.

🌱 At Vikaasa, We Nurture Readers and Thinkers

As a leading ICSE School in Madurai, Vikaasa is committed to nurturing more than academic success. We foster curiosity, respect for creativity, and a lifelong love for reading. Events like this aren’t just one-day celebrations — they are moments that align with our everyday learning ethos.

We’re also proud to be one of the few Cambridge curriculum schools in the region that seamlessly blend international exposure with Indian values. That means our students grow up with access to world-class education, grounded in the wisdom of their roots.

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”

Rabindranath Tagore

📖 Why Celebrating Books Matters

“A book is a dream that you hold in your hands.”

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

🔹 Ignite Creativity

Books introduce new worlds, bold ideas, and limitless possibilities. They encourage students to explore, question, and imagine — all essential for creative problem-solving and original thinking.

🔹 Strengthen Language Skills

Every page offers a chance to learn new words, absorb different styles, and enhance communication. Reading naturally improves vocabulary, grammar, and clarity of expression.

🔹 Build Empathy

Stories cultivate the ability to understand others. As students read about diverse characters and experiences, they grow more thoughtful and emotionally aware — qualities that shape compassionate individuals.

🔹 Encourage Focus

In an age of constant distraction, reading helps students slow down and tune in. It improves attention span and nurtures quiet concentration — a skill valuable for both academics and everyday life.

🔹 Inspire Expression

From journaling to storytelling, reading opens doors to personal expression. It gives students the confidence to write, speak, and share their perspectives with pride.

🌟 Final Chapter? Just the Beginning.

World Book and Copyright Day at Vikaasa reminded us that stories don’t just live on shelves — they live in hearts. They live in the excitement of a child discovering their first favourite author. In the pride of a student writing their own poem. In the quiet joy of reading together.

And while April 23rd may have passed, our celebration of books continues — every day, every lesson, every time a student says, “Can I read a little more?”

If you’re looking for an education where learning is joyful, creativity is respected, and books are beloved — Vikaasa is where that journey begins.
